Our Collaboration with Lumus: Bringing Waveguides to Life
Lumus is a leader in augmented reality (AR) optics, specializing in patented reflective waveguide technology that delivers unmatched image clarity, brightness, and color uniformity. Their ultra-thin waveguides embed multiple partially reflective mirrors within a single substrate, guiding light efficiently via Total Internal Reflection (TIR) to create vibrant, distortion-free AR visuals. This technology enables true see-through displays with daylight readability and a wide field of view, ideal for both indoor and outdoor environments. Lumus’ waveguides offer up to 10 times higher brightness than competing solutions, with superior luminance efficiency that reduces battery consumption. Their innovations power critical military and medical AR devices while advancing consumer wearable displays with sleek, designer eyewear form factors. Lumus’ commitment to mass manufacturability, working with partners like Schott and Quanta Computer, ensures scalable production using industry-standard materials and machinery.
For over four years, we have proudly collaborated with Lumus to create compelling visual content showcasing their groundbreaking waveguide technology. Our work includes a captivating short film highlighting Lumus’ exceptional light efficiency, true color reproduction, and distortion-free AR experience. Using their detailed 3D waveguide models, we produced advanced 3D animations that vividly demonstrate the technology’s inner workings. Separately, we created a dedicated manufacturing film documenting the precision production process behind Lumus’ waveguides, shot in Malaysia and Germany in collaboration with Schott. Additionally, we have produced multiple internal films for investor and shareholder presentations. On a personal note, the friendship between David Goldman and me has been a meaningful part of this journey. David’s creative vision and innovative ideas have been truly inspiring, reflecting the strong synergy between our teams and Lumus’ pioneering spirit.





We also produced a behind-the-scenes film that highlights the intricate process of bringing those waveguides to life. Lumus collaborates closely with Quanta and SCHOTT, strategic partners who have co-developed the manufacturing processes to enable scalable mass production of Lumus’s advanced reflective waveguides. Unlike diffractive waveguides, Lumus’s reflective waveguides are made by coating, stacking, slicing, lapping, polishing, shaping, and testing multiple glass plates with extreme precision to achieve perfect alignment and optical performance. This process relies on well-established glass manufacturing techniques, enabling cost-effective volume production without the need for semiconductor cleanrooms. Since 2017, Quanta has been a key partner producing high-yield optical engines, while SCHOTT supplies specialized glass and coatings from its global facilities. To create this manufacturing film, we collaborated with regional film crews in Malaysia and Taiwan—working alongside Barker Productions in Taiwan and Rob Chua from Islet Studios. Some scenes were captured remotely, with live camera feeds streaming behind the scenes, which made the production run incredibly smoothly. Everyone involved—the client and the production team alike—was thrilled with the outcome. This remote collaboration turned out to be one of those rare, seamless experiences you hope every remote project can be.



We used the ARRI Alexa Mini LF paired with Sigma lenses, along with a Zeiss macro lens to capture the intricate details of the waveguide manufacturing process. This setup allowed us to showcase the precision and craftsmanship behind Lumus’s optical technology, bringing the micro-scale engineering to life with cinematic clarity.
